Living Plastic Free: Creative Ways to Repurpose Glass Jars

Living Plastic Free: Creative Ways to Repurpose Glass Jars

Have you ever stopped to consider how many glass jars you toss out every month? While recycling them is great, learning how to reuse glass jars will reduce your carbon footprint even more.

Reusing glass jars is a great way to save money and get organized. In this blog, we show step by step how you can reduce waste, reuse jars, and organize your life while helping the environment just by reusing glass.

First, you’ll want to save all your jars over the next few weeks or use what you have already accumulated over the last year and start with the process of cleaning off the labels

There are actually a few ways to do this, but we heated up hot water in a pot and added hot (not boiling) water to the jars (be careful, y'all) then, once the jars have cooled, we used a kitchen scrubber (or you can use a Brillo pad or even a butter knife) with a bit of baking soda and scrub away; some of them were stubborn and sticky but the part where the label comes off is very satisfying. If you get lucky and peel off the entire label, consider it a big win. Work at it or repeat the process again to get the stubborn ones off and leave all your jars to dry

How to reuse glass jars: bathroom organizer, in the pantry, plants, upcycled décor, candle making, office organizer (thinks pins and paperclips), drinking glasses, homemade gifts, kids crafts, and refilling your jar in Ziro with soap, lotion, laundry detergent or cleaner (just to name a few).

We had some leftover paint from our wall mural and reused these old jars as décor for our shop! We’re really pleased with how they turned out. There are a few ways to do this: you can paint the inside by spreading paint in your jar and swirling it around until the entire inside surface area is covered or just coat the outside of your jar twice. Life is about creating! What will you make by reusing your glass jars?
